My Baby Jack

im sure im repeating but I work with waterfowl and one of things I get to do sometimes is imprint one. imprinting means that from the moment it hatches it is hand raised and the baby therefore perceives people to be its mother. it is usually done for educational purposes so kids can touch birds without the bird being stressed out. (since it understands we mean no harm)

well this one is a fulvous tree duck I named Jack. I often fou d myself calling him Baby Jack so it stuck sad part is he reverted to his wild state once he grew up the reason is males tend to forget the imprinting due to hormone levels rising. he is still tame compared to other ducks, but he no longer remembers who I am, which made me sad but I get to see him every day in his happy home at the breeding center I work at. he may not know who I am, but I know who he is
